For over fifteen centuries the mysterious crop circles have been mentioned in academic and religious texts. In the 1890s farmers and military personnel witnessed them being created in seconds by tubes of light and other luminosities. References to out-of-place geometrical shapes appearing in cereal crops date back fifteen centuries. Chronicles of English customs during the reign of Henry VIII mention Maypole dancing that curious fertility dance common to Celtic Britain, in which locals describe the origin of the dancers’ movements by learning ‘the geometrical shapes we find in the tall grasses before the morning’. By the 17th century, these strange markings spiraled into crop fields had become the stuff of folklore, the ‘witch’s circles’ or ‘devil’s rings’ as they would later be called in the Victorian era. But around 1980 the phenomenon went into overdrive and exploded worldwide, with some10,000 reports spread over 29 countries. A major controversy erupted followed by a pre-designed debunking campaign through the media. But the 80 eyewitness accounts clearly tell another story — that a genuine phenomenon is at work. So what are crop circles, why are they here and who, or what, is responsible? Since the first encounter this phenomenon, the magic of crop circles have touched countless people on the deepest levels. From the very first moment one encounters crop circles they are immediately surrounded by a myriad of riddles. Riddles that many people, from all walks of life have been attempting to solve or many, many years. Some even making it their life’s work, to solve the nagging question to find the elusive answer to the question: What on Earth is going on? No matter how one looks at crop circles, they’re definitely one of the greatest mysteries of modern times. These are images or voices of light in a world that is void of it. Is it a mystery that touches the fringes of the human psyche and probably the most fascinating aspect of this phenomenon. The phenomenon speaks to everyone at all thinkable levels – conscious, subconscious, and super conscious, for both believers and non-believers as to what exactly this phenomenon truly is. Are they man made, or extraterrestrial in origin? Is it a hoax, and if so, when are they going to tire of creating all these crop circles all around the world! But there’s a much bigger issue here, ‘alien intervention,’ which in any culture seldom leads to a positive outcome. Especially for the recipients. And human history testifies to that. Europeans introduced vices that wiped out entire indigenous American cultures; the Conquistadors put the Incas and Aztecs to the sword for the greed of gold; the ones who survived fell into the mental prisons of the Catholic church; Polynesian islanders were wrecked by viral infections introduced by land-based traders or invaders. If we extend this argument, it stands to reason that an intervention in human affairs by an extraterrestrial culture should follow the same pattern. Or would it? A civilization capable of reaching us would have mastered the art of space, even time travel. This implies a long history of exploration, and thus a culture that is cognizant of the dangers inherent in overt communication with outside worlds. Assuming that a culturally, even ethically advanced entity has been interacting with us, it would do so in a manner that is as subtle as it is all-inclusive. And there is strong evidence to suggest this has been going on for quite some time.
